Yonge Street Mission’s (YSM) Double Take (DT) Thrift Store is seeking Double Take Store Donation Sorting Volunteers!

Role Overview:

Double Take (DT) Thrift Store is a Yonge Street Mission social enterprise with a twofold purpose: to provide hands-on employment training to job seekers, and act as a community resource where gently used, high-quality clothing, furniture and housewares can be purchased at affordable prices, in our store and online. The purpose of the Double Take Store Donation Sorting Volunteer is to assist with sorting incoming donation items at our Double Take Store! The ideal volunteer will be energetic, able to lift light items, and likes to sort, move and organize items (i.e. clothing, accessories, houseware, home décor items, etc.), and should be able to be self-motivated in initiating tasks under the guidance and supervision of the manager.

Role Requirements/Responsibilites:

  • Helping to sort through donated items to ensure they are in good condition and worthy of being placed in the store for sale
  • Helping to use moving dolly to unpack, sort  and move items, boxes, bins, and furniture within the warehouse and the store as needed
  • Helping in other ways as needed with the store and warehouse team
  • Helping with donations processing/receipting
  • Helping with disinfecting donations and products as needed
  • Able to stand and walk around for extended periods of time
  • Able to bend, reach, lift and carry large bags of clothes up to 50 lbs, as well as other household items and furniture
  • Able to not get easily distracted by items being sorted through and instead focuses on quality for the store not for personal consumption
  • Good English language comprehension, to be able to understand communicated instructions to be able to complete tasks
  • Able to follow through on commitments, trustworthy, reliable, and honest
  • Responsible, with an efficient approach to completing duties
  • Able to take direction: cooperative, enthusiastic, quick thinking, high energy and willing to take initiative
  • Able to follow store rules, pertaining to volunteer consumption of store items
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of cultural competency, social justice, anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion
  • Age/Online Access/COVID Safety Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old, and able to go online to view volunteer shifts/notifications, and follow our mandatory COVID-19 volunteer safety guidelines and volunteer guidelines.
  • Commitment: Able to make a minimum 6 month commitment with shifts being flexible (complete at least 1 shift weekly)

  • Available Shifts: Volunteer will negotiate/finalize this with DT Staff/Store Manager
  • Location: Gerrard & Parliament
